📚 #manbooker2018 update - I’ve read 7/13 so far. I still haven’t read anything since I finished #EverythingUnder a few days ago, which I LOVED! Just as well I start the remaining longlisted books with a fresh mindset, hopefully once I’ve recovered from my book hangover!
.
Discovering gems like Everything Under is probably my fave part of literary prizes like the Booker. So good, and something I might have missed out on reading otherwise. Washington Black was another example of a book I might not have read if not for the Booker list, so I’m glad for that!
.
Tbh, all the Booker books I’ve read so far have been pretty interesting and different and have been strong choices. Plus they’ve all been really gorgeous books too! #coverlove If I had to pick faves at this point, it would be In Our Mad and Furious City & Everything Under 💕💙 I read #MadAndFurious before the longlist announcement and felt like I was holding the Booker winner in my hand
.
Looking forward to reading the rest of the longlist over the next few weeks and seeing how my thoughts might change! 📖🙌🏽 Have you been reading the Booker longlist this year? Let me know what your favourites have been!! 😍

“The day Somebody McSomebody put a gun to my breast and called me a cat and threatened to shoot me was the same day the milkman died.” - Anna Burns, Milkman 🥛
.
#currentlyreading 📖 // Look at that gorgeous cover! 😍 I’m about 100ish pages into Milkman, and quite enjoying it. It’s not the same exactly, but when I started this, the intense writing style kind of reminded me of Eimear McBride’s A Girl Is A Half-Formed Thing; set in Ireland, female protagonist, stream-of consciousness narration. The setting of 1970s Ireland amidst the Troubles seemed familiar also because I had recently read #MadAndFurious , which featured a character who had lived through that period. I had been intrigued then, looking up the details as it was an era I wasn’t too familiar with. Well, this time I get to enjoy a whole novel set within that time period, so that should be interesting!
.
My only wish is that I could just stay home and keep reading it! The work week zaps all my reading energy, so I’ve been reading this whenever I get the chance. What are you all currently reading? Hope it’s something good! 😄📖

“I think about why it had to be a younger that done it. Why it was that when we saw the eyes of the black boy with the dripping blade, we felt closer to him than that solider-boy slain in the street.” When you identify with the monster. My current read, Guy Gunaratne’s debut In Our Mad and Furious City

I had the pleasure of attending an author showcase recently with @rossiter_books which was hosted by Headline Books. We were introduced to five debut novels and their authors, who look set to become some of the big new names to watch out for this year. It was a great evening and very exciting to meet new authors!
📚
The Feed by Nick Clark Windo is the first book out of the five that I have read so far. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the story explores what happens after the Feed goes down. Alternating between the present and the past, the novel poses an alternate world where people’s digital feeds are downloaded straight to their brain. The book has already been commissioned for a tv series by Amazon, so this is definitely one to watch out for!
📚
The Tall Man by Phoebe Locke is a dark and creepy thriller that sees Sadie Banner abandon her family after being haunted by the Tall Man since childhood. She returns sixteen years later, but can’t escape the dark secrets of her past. Two years later, a documentary film crew follows Amber Banner, who has just been acquitted of a murder charge. But who did she kill, and why?
📚
The Wolf by Leo Carew is the first book in a new fantasy series called Under the Northern Sky. With Carew being dubbed the next George RR Martin, this could be the next epic historical fantasy favourite!
📚
The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton is a psychological thriller that has the potential to be the next Gone Girl or The Girl On The Train. This dark tale sees Juliette do anything to win back her ex-boyfriend Nate, even going to the extreme lengths of becoming a flight attendant for his airline. 📚
In Our Mad and Furious City by Guy Gunaratne has already been discussed as a possible Costa Book Awards contender for this year. Written in the wake of the Lee Rigby killing, the novel is a portrait of 48 hours on a London council estate and explores violence, extremism and radicalism in a divided society.
📚
Do any of these titles appeal to you and which one would you read first? I’m still deciding on my next read from the bunch!
